Key Clients

Client: Ellis Don Corporation

N-Sci provided the electrical engineering for an EPC contract with the Ellis Don Corporation for a new 9MW solar farm. The project included a new 44 kV substation connecting to Hydro One Network’s grid and N-Sci also provided Arc Flash Analysis for the project.

Services included the development of system specifications including the solar panels, combiner boxes, disconnect switches and breakers, high and medium voltage cables, as well as, the inverter house specification.

The design specifications were then used to provide the various regulatory bodies and utilities (e.g. Hydro One Networks, Electrical Safety Authority, IESO) with the required interconnection paperwork, including Form B (Connection Impact Assessment Application), Single Line Drawing of the connection, Protection Philosophy, Tripping Matrix, and Draft COVER (Confirmation of Verification Evidence Report).

Additional regulatory work included communications with the IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator). The ESA (Electrical Safety Authority) was then provided the Protection and Control Study as well as the Ground Potential Rise Study, Trench Cable Thermal Study, Trenching Design, Ground Grid Design, Communications design for SCADA and Transfer Trip for approval.

Client: Ontario Ministry of Energy – Smart Grid Fund

N-Sci was contracted by the Ministry of Energy of the Government of Ontario to provide technical review and ongoing technical advisory services for Microgrid, Energy Storage and Electric Vehicle projects under the Smart Grid Fund.

N-Sci reviewed the applications to the Smart Grid Fund by various organizations to determine their technical feasibility as well as to assess the capabilities of the project team. Risk identification and assessment of the benefits of the projects to the community were performed and the assessment was delivered to the Ministry for acceptance to the fund.

The projects accepted by the fund submitted regular reporting that was reviewed by N-Sci to identify new risks or mitigation strategies for current risks. This ongoing assessment also calls for regular communication with Project team members in order to ensure clear communication and tracking of meeting project milestones.
